Barbeque-a-palooza

We hosted two barbeques at the new house this weekend. The first was after work Friday night with the Adams, The following night we had one for the Villafanas (family friends of my parents) who were in town briefly.

Our PS2 died over the weekend, I think the motor just didn't like being left on all the time. It was one of the re-released versions of the PS2. Slimmerline with a top feeding spring loaded eject button. I've heard the model is problematic, I'd heard rumors that some of them even tend to catch fire --oops!

Erector Set

Ben had a birthday present from Suz' parents that we forgot to give him on his birthday. We got into it together last night. At first I had to show him how the diagrams explain the way parts go together. Within an hour though, he was doing fine on his own. We are building a crane here. There are several steps, this might take a day or two.

I remember my dad helping me with Erector set when I was a kid. It's strange to be on the side now, but just as fun.

Pokai

I went up and took a look at the North Shore yesterday, it was a mess. I never got in. Two swells are hitting the island at the same time. Something aphasic is happening.

Today Gene called me from White Plains beach with a mild surf report and we decided to head West together. Sometimes the Western mountains block the winds from the North East and take care of all the chop. We found some 3 foot faces at Pokai Bay. Sometimes there were 12 in a set sometimes only ...1. It was often more than 15 minutes between sets though, and it was overcast and a little chilly. Surfers were waiting the sets out in the water as the ocean was warmer than the air. We had fun anyway though. Long rides at Pokai.

Sand Island

A friend showed me a break on Sand Island, which is less than 10 minutes drive from work. Nothing great, but not bad. I took the 6'1 fish over there for lunch today. It was just a short black-ops session to work with the new board. I didn't expect much of a session, but its always a good thing to get some beach time over lunch hour. I did better than I expected, I caught at least one wave. Maybe working on new boards over lunch hour could become a new habit.

Movies Where Robots Went Crazy

Our group needed the white board space in the lunch room, so I had to erase a list that the developers had been working on over lunch. It was a list of movies where robots go crazy. I think it was pretty old anyway, and now it will live on as blog-fodder.

I think that the ones in blue indicate that there was a spiritual aspect, and the ones in the box, are not validated yet.

Pau Ka Hale

We finished up on the old rental this evening. I cut work about an hour early to wrap up last day type issues. I cleaned, caulked holes and pulled the glow stars off of Naomi's ceiling. I opened and disconnected the fridge, and switched off the breaker on the major appliances. I also pulled the custom made bookshelf out of the mid-point on the stairwell. It was good Zen type work, well suited to nostalgia and a fresh MaiTai.

My mom and dad are still in town. They watched the kids while Sue and I went out for an evening meal to celebrate. We had a delicious dinner at Hana Sushi in Kapolei: unagi, chicken teriaki, volcano roll, california twist, and several kinds of maki. We dropped the keys in the landlords mailbox on the way back to the new house and I'm sure we'll sleep very well.
