Opening New Doors

We finally closed on a new rental house Wednesday night. It was in our backyard all along. Sort of. We made a temporary modification to the fence between the old and new houses yesterday. It should make the move much easier.

Mom & Dad Arrive

Mom and dad got in from Texas yesterday. Here's mom in the park, happy to be with her 3 grand kids.

You've Just Been Served

It's a strange feeling when you finish up a tastey pork chop dinner, get the three kids off to bed and then get an ominous late night knock at the front door. A tall friendly man let us know that the house we are renting will be up for sale next month. He was required by law to tape a notice to the front of our house. Click on the picture above and read it for yourself. Kind of makes us wonder what happened to all the rent money we've been paying over the last two years. Hmm...it might be tricky getting our deposit back.

Bubbles & Squeak

Lori, myself, Lynette, Cecillia, Ilikea, Judy, Peter, Alvin, John, Linda

Cecillia made a bunch of us corned beef and cabbage for lunch in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Lunch break in the ping-pong room, Irish style.

I needed the fun at lunch, today was otherwise a rough day. I didn't get enough sleep last night and my swim routine is off because the pool is closed this week for repainting. I got up early and parked where I usually swim then ran around Aloha stadium. With the pool deck closed, I soaped up and showered off from the hose in the parking lot instead.

I got the full versions of my Makaha pictures back from Pake (Pah-kay) she sold me six of them for $45. They are good keep-sakes. I also managed to finish Ender's Game (on loan from Austen) this evening after I got the kids in bed. So nice when the house gets quiet!

Palm Sunday

I said "Palm Sunday"... not "Finger Sunday".

Hui! You can dress them up, but you can't take them out!

Kid Quotes:
  • At kids time Nate consoled a dramatically lamenting Mary Magdeline hand puppet. Nate says "Oh, its okay, don't cry puppet", probably the first 3 rows heard him.
  • Sue said "No Nate, the (toy) camera is for Naomi", Naomi said, "No Nate, the camera is for me!!". Probably the first time she's changed a pronoun on her own like that.

Running Errands with Dad

Sue went off snorkling at Ko'olina today. She got her first picture ever of a spiney starfish

Meanwhile, the kids and I ran a bunch of errands to get the house ready for my parents' visit on Wednesday. We went recycling, picked up new bathroom stuff at Home Depot, and dropped by the Adams for some loaner storage shelves. On the way back home, we detoured and went to the West Side for a late afternoon dip at Tracks.

Action Item

Had a productive meeting at work. I took some notes on deliverables for project agenda.

This sketch was inspired by the break at Makaha, it's a mental snapshot from last week. At Makaha, the waves are like a big bump in a sheet of carpet instead of the palm of a hand scooping up behind you. I am more familiar with the latter. The trick was staying ahead of that bump long enough for you to be sliding down the front side of it. Even with 7' faces I often had to paddle over the front of the board before the wave would bring me along. Once you catch it though -- oh sweetness, what a fun drop it is!

North Shore

A friend lent me the mid 80's movie "North Shore" to watch and return. Finally got around to seeing it last night. Man do I miss the feathered hair look!

Funny thing was, the only surf on the island today was ... the North Shore. Went to Chun's had some really nice rides (3-7' faces). It was about a two hour session. I probably stayed out too long though. I started getting tired and made some stooopid mistakes. Had a few near run-ins, close enough to get skegged on the arm (a first). Nobodies board, or body was damaged though.

Helping Hands Hawaii

Referentia bought a table at the helping hands Hawaii fund raiser
dinner yesterday. I got a ride to the event from work with Nelson. Conversation was enilghtening, and a good way to spend the time in heavy traffic. Honorees at the dinner were Senator Akaka and KITV Hawaii. The meal was a (I think) fillet mignon, and rice, and vegetables. It was probably the best steak I've had on the island.

Signs

Once every other week on a Tuesday or Thursday, Sue and I go out for coffee as a treat after the boys leave for school. Starbucks usually provides free philosophy on the backs of their paper coffee cups. I found it interesting that we both received the same blurb on diagnosing a child with Austism when the first of Nate's diagnostic sessions begins tomorrow morning.

Wahiawa United Methodist

We went to the 10 AM service. It seems like this might be a good church for the kids, classrooms are clean, and the nursery is well tended.

Afterwards, we got two fire roasted rotisserie chickens for take-out at Maui Mike's on Main St. in Wahiawa. Ono-licious!

(art is a scan and unsharp mask of the graphic which was on the bulletin. Then I put in some color on another layer)

Chi-hoo!

Surfed Makaha with Greg Adams today. Boy are my arms tired.
